Mental Health

Therapy, psychiatry, counseling, and support for adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and life’s complexities.

Mental health care shouldn't feel fragmented

Most people juggle separate providers: one therapist, one psychiatrist, maybe a primary care doctor who doesn't know what is currently prescribed. Information gets lost. Medications conflict causing discomfort. Progress stalls.

Your mental health, physical health, and daily life are connected -- so should be your care.

Integrated mental health care

At Lawrence Medical Center, your mental health providers work alongside primary care and substance use treatment teams. They coordinate medications, share information with your consent, and adjust your care plan as your needs change.

What this means:

We see you as a whole person, not separate diagnoses.

Treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some people need weekly therapy. Others need medication management only. Many need both, plus case management or peer support. Your plan adjusts based on what’s actually working.

Mental health services at Lawrence Medical Center

Individual Therapy

One-on-one sessions with a licensed therapist in a confidential setting. You'll work together to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that impact your wellbeing, and develop healthier ways to handle difficult situations.

Group Therapy

Structured group sessions led by a trained facilitator where you'll connect with others facing similar challenges. Share experiences, gain new perspectives, and build skills in a supportive environment. Topics may include relationships, self-esteem, stress management, and relapse prevention.

Case Management

Your case manager helps coordinate care, connect you with community resources (housing support, financial assistance, educational programs, transportation), and navigate insurance or system challenges. With your consent, they'll advocate for your needs and help remove barriers to treatment.

Peer Recovery Support

Guidance and encouragement from trained peer specialists with personal experience in mental health or addiction recovery. Peer support offers practical advice and connection from someone who understands what you're going through.

Psychiatric Medication Management

Our psychiatric providers evaluate your symptoms, prescribe and adjust medications when clinically appropriate, and monitor your response over time. We coordinate closely with your therapist and primary care doctor.

Common reasons people visit:

Flexible mental health appointment options

Telehealth: Available for therapy, psychiatry followups, and some case management sessions. Meet with providers from wherever you're comfortable.

In-person: Available at all our locations across Massachusetts for those who prefer face-toface care.

Your provider will discuss which format works best for your situation and goals.

When your providers work together

Physical and mental health connect
Sleep problems, chronic pain, fatigue, weight changes. Sometimes these are symptoms of depression or anxiety. When your providers communicate, these patterns get recognized and addressed appropriately.

Medications stay safe
Psychiatric medications can affect blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, or interact with other prescriptions. Your primary care doctor monitors these effects when they're part of your care team.

Recovery gets supported holistically
Whether you're managing substance use, navigating trauma, or working through depression, your physical health, mental health, and daily stability all impact each other. Coordinated care addresses all of it.

Getting started with therapy

Step 1: Initial assessment

Meet with a provider (therapist or psychiatrist depending on your needs) to discuss your concerns, history, current symptoms, and goals. This helps determine the right treatment approach.

Step 2: Create a plan

Your provider recommends a plan, which might include therapy frequency, medication evaluation, support services, or a combination. The plan is built around your situation and preferences.

Step 3: Begin treatment

Start therapy sessions, medication management, or other services based on your treatment plan. Follow-up scheduling depends on your needs and clinical recommendations.

Step 4: Adjust as needed

Mental health course changes as your life changes. Your provider checks in regularly and adjusts the approach based on your progress and feedback.
